Sustainable use of land (GRI)

Explanation of the material topic and its Boundary (GRI 103-1)

Using land in a more sustainable way is becoming increasingly important due to its significance for climate change resilience and supporting biodiversity locally. Bonava thereby contributes to UN SDG targets including:

  • 13.1 Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters in all countries.

Management Approach (GRI 103-2)

Where needed, Bonava will decontaminate land and render it suitable for building homes. Where previously undeveloped land is claimed, the projects are designed to protect biological diversity and other ecological values. Bonava’s Happy Neighbourhood tool for creating happy neighbourhoods includes support for planting trees and planning for greenery and green spaces.

When identifying relevant climate targets, Bonava has chosen to include changes in land use as a direct climate impact. This choice is supported by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in its Special Report, Climate Change and Land, published 2019.

Bonava reports yearly for GRI indicator 304-4 IUCN Red list species and national conservation list specieis with habitats in areas affected by operations and Bonava indicator Sustainble use land including G4 CRE 5 Land remediation.
