Happy Neighbourhood Report 2026

New lifestyle choices are reshaping the housing landscape

Bonava develops homes and residential areas designed to last for generations. To succeed, we need a deep understanding of how people’s needs, life situations, and expectations change over time - and how these differ across the markets where Bonava operates.

The survey in the Happy Neighbourhood Report is Bonava’s way of taking broader responsibility for housing development in Sweden, Finland, Germany, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. By gathering and analyzing perspectives from people of all ages, the report creates a shared knowledge base on what influences people’s desire to live and feel at home.

The Happy Neighbourhood Report 2026 shows how changing life choices are reshaping perceptions of both the home and the neighbourhood – and raising broader questions about how we plan the cities of the future.

“How do we create homes and neighbourhoods that people want to live in when fewer young adults plan for children, more older people do not believe that living conditions will improve over time, and work life increasingly permanently moves into the home? These are questions that need to be addressed in urban development across society. Achieving this requires close collaboration between business, municipalities, policymakers and civil society”

Anna Wenner, SVP Brand and Culture, Bonava

The insights from the report can contribute to:

* developing housing that can be adapted over time

* creating safe and inclusive neighborhoods for people of all ages

* better accommodate new lifestyle choices, such as working remotely and changed family structures

By sharing the insights from this report, we aim to continue cooperating with municipalities, policymakers, and civil society to create more happy neighborhoods and contribute to the long-term development of society.
